About ABKA Beekeepers keen to learn about the Honey bee and develop techniques and skills to support our local strain of Black Honey bee (Apis mellifera mellifera) Anglesey and immediate environs ABKA covers the whole of the Isle of Anglesey and the connected mainland for about 20 miles, encircled by the Snowdonia mountains including Bangor and Carnarvon. A typical year in ABKA January We are largely concerned with the distribution and application of a pest treatment to minimise the Honey Bee’s biggest modern day threat - the Varroa mite. February - early May We meet at 1900hrs on the first Wednesday of each month at Rhosmeirch Community Hall for lectures and discussions. This is also the period, the knowledge sessions of our training courses take place before the practical sessions in the Training Apiary. We will also be examining our bees after the winter and preparing them to prosper over the summer. mid May - August The demands and development of the bee colonies take precedence and we are all ocupied with them. It is also the period, when our Beginner group will receive their nucleus colony and start to care for their own bees, The first part of this period is punctuated with swarms from both domestic and feral colonies which need to managed. September This period is normally spent processing the honey crop and preparing the colonies for the Winter. October Back in Rhosmeirch, we have a talk or demonstration November Our Annual General Meeting December Christmas Dinner About ABKA About ABKA Training Training 2015 Activities 2017 Activities Gallery Gallery Contacts Join ABKA Join ABKA Nuisance Bees Nuisance Bees About ABKA About ABKA Training Training 2017 Activities 2017 Activities Gallery Gallery Home Home Nuisance Bees Nuisance Bees Join ABKA Join ABKA Beekeeping Information Beekeeping Information CYMRAEG
